Location
Mal Pais “badlands” is
located in the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula and is one
of the new hot spots in Costa Rica for tourists of all ages.
With Cabo Blanco wildlife reserve to the south and miles of sand
and rock beaches to the north this destination should not be
overlooked. Until recently the major allure to this sleepy town
was the fantastic surf waves found on its sand and point breaks.
With the lack of protected coves and outlets for launching boats
in the north combined with the protected Cabo Blanco Reserve to
the south, this areas fishing pressure has been limited to a few
local fishermen who provide fresh fish to all the restaurants.
There are many tourist excursions and adventures available here;
kayak fishing-inshore or offshore with panga support, surfing,
horse back riding on the beach, canopy tours, sport fishing,
jungle tours and snorkeling, to name a few. There are a variety
of lodging options available from camping to high end resorts
and everything in between. Come and experience the “Pura Vida”.

About us
Badlands Kayak was
started in 2004 by fishery biologist, owner and guide Joe Stueck
with only three kayaks and his love for fishing and adventure.
Now there is a fleet of Ocean Kayak Scrambler xt’s, as well as
two pangas for offshore support. All of our kayaks are rigged
with Ramrod 2000 and flush mounts rod holders, Surf to Summit
fishing seats, paddle leashes, and PFD’s . We provide all the
necessary gear and tackle, and offer a variety of trips for all
skill levels. So whether you’ve never paddled before, or you’re
a seasoned kayak fisherman looking for an exotic new challenge,
we will fine tune our trips to meet your expectations.
Because this business
started by targeting the local tourist, our kayak and kayak
fishing trips have adapted to cater to a variety of budgets and
desires and can be customized to fit individual needs.

Our resort should be completed and open late this year. There
will be four bungalow’s and one large house to rent with a large
pool and wet bar available. Meanwhile, we can arrange for
accommodations to fit your budget.
